Cancer Can Be Cure By Human Body’s Own Immune System: Scientists Said

Two Scientists Have been just awarded Nobel Prize 2018 in Medicine for a new treatment that will help find a cure for Cancer.

They have won the award for the method they developed to treat Cancer. Professor Tasuku Honjo of Kyoto University in Japan and Professor James A Allison from the University of Texas in US together developed the method to cure Cancer. They found that it can be possible to cure the treatment of Cancer using human body’s own immune system. The will help for treatment of advanced skin Cancer, a normal deadly illness. They will share the amount of Nobel Prize worth Approximately $1.1 million.

Some cells of immune system can recognise cancer cells as abnormal and kill them. Unfortunately it is not enough to get rid of Cancer altogether. But Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that helps your immune system to fight cancer. The immune system helps your body fight infections and other diseases. It is made up of white blood cells, organs and tissues of the lymph system.

How Immunotherapy works against Cancer ?

One reason that cancer cells thrive is because they are able to hide from your immune system. Certain immunotherapies can mark cancer cells so it is easier for the immune system to find and destroy them. Other immunotherapies boost your immune system to work better against cancer.

Our immune system functions by attacking foreign infections, but to do this it’s also ingrained with safeguards that make it avoid attacking our own tissue. Unfortunately, some types of cancers take advantage of this. Because of their similarities to human tissue, the immune system doesn’t target them.

Honjo and Allison then have figured out the protein responsible for triggering that safeguard. They’ve been able to design treatments that inhibit that protein, unleashing the immune system on the cancer cells in the process. In short, advanced cancers that were once considered untreatable are not anymore. One of these is the most serious kind of skin cancers, melanoma.

There are some limitations of the treatment, it doesn’t work for every patients. However it function Very well. In some cases the treatment has helped the body rid itself of tumor entirely even after the cancer spread to our body. Additionally the treatment will has also shown to work on lung cancer patients too.
